Dragon Boat Festival 2023
We participated in the Fundraising Newark Dragon Boat Race 2023 event this month, where 35 teams battled it out to become the winner. The funds raised went towards two wonderful charities, Beaumond House Hospice Care and Children’s Bereavement Centre. So far in total, the event has raised a phenomenal £31,000 pounds.
Dragon boat racing is the fastest growing water activity in Britain today. With up to seven team members able to paddle on a 30’ boat, and a drummer at the front to help the teams with timing. We had a small crew who took part for us, seven people signed up to take on the challenge. The team did a brilliant job battling it out at the River Trent, with their team Captains Matthew Batey and Rachel Mann rallying the troops though-out the whole day.
While the Dragon Boating racing was the main event, there was still lots of activities to get involved with at the event. There was a real festival atmosphere with something for all members and family to enjoy including live music and entertainment, street theatre, face painting, inflatables, tombola, puppet making, climbing wall and for the first time ever a driving experience and caving activity.
While we worked brilliantly as a team, all this competition was done for a worthy cause, fundraising for two local charities Beaumond House Hospice Care and Children’s Bereavement Centre. Both charities offer their services free of charge to those who need it, which is why they need help through fundraising and events like these make it possible. We smashed our £500 target given to us by the event and we’re currently at £1,300. However, there is still time for people to do more!
